Palm Mill Boiler Specifications

Boilers at palm oil processing plants have a very vital function as a tool to produce water vapor, which will be used for heating or moving energy. In palm oil processing this tool is likened to the heart of a palm oil mill. Where this machine is the source of energy and a source of steam that will be used to process oil palm. The location of this machine must be in accordance with the flow of oil palm processing production.

This Palm Oil Boiler has the advantage of being able to use a variety of fuels so that it is not fixed on only one type of fuel. Today this machine uses waste from the processing of the palm oil itself such as palm shells, no longer being trash like it used to.

PT. Indira Dwi Mitra sejatindo is ready to serve all your needs for your palm oil processing plant needs. One of the production tools that we have is a high-quality palm mill boiler.

Then how can the palm shell become the most potential alternative energy source instead of BBM?

Speaking of palm shells Boiler, maybe not many of us know how and what a palm shell is. Looking directly at oil palm trees may also not have been. At present all major Indonesian islands, from Sumatra to Papua, are full of oil palm plantations. Palm oil is indeed a prima donna because of its very high economic value. In Sumatra alone, stretches of oil palm plantations are very easy to find, starting from the provinces of Lampung to Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.

Quality Palm Oil Bunch (personal dock)

The results of oil palm plantations are palm fruit that is contained in bunches or commonly known as FFB (fresh fruit bunches). The skin of an oil palm fruit ( eksoskrap ) that is ready to harvest is a red heart with a little yellow and looks shiny. The middle part of the palm fruit ( mesoskrap ) consists of fibers or commonly called orange fibers. Very similar to coconut husk. In the center of the textured black hard shell ( endoscope ). Inside the shell there is fruit flesh or palm kernel ( kernel) colored white. Palm fruit meat is what will be processed into palm oil or commonly called palm crude oil (CPO). The CPO will be reprocessed into cooking oil. How many processed products derived from CPO are soap, margarine, wax, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products.

At the palm oil processing plant (PKS), there are several steps that must be passed so that oil palm can produce CPO. One of them is the process of separating the core from the shell. On average, an oil palm processing plant (PKS) has a processing capacity of 30-50 tons of palm oil per hour. While the waste produced can reach twice as much. The palm oil processing waste is in the form of shells and fibers. We can imagine how many tons of palm shells can be produced by just one PKS in a month.

If we visit a palm oil mill it will be easy to find tons of palm shell mounds around the PKS area. Even though it has become waste it does not mean that it will be thrown away. Palm shell waste will be reused as fuel in the boiler furnace. The boiler itself is the most important part of the palm oil processing plant. Apart from being used for the ‘boiling‘ process of oil palm, the boiler also produces steam ( steam ) which will be converted into driving energy of turbines. Including drive turbines to produce electrical energy. So factories that are far inland still have electricity from the boiler.

self is usually surplus. Then the excess shell will be sold. Currently the price of palm shells in the market ranges from Rp. 300 to Rp. 500 / kilo (not the price sold directly by PKS). The price of the shell is also determined by the quality (wet / dry) and the location of the palm kernel shell originating from it. However, the price of palm kernel shells is much cheaper than the current price of diesel fuel. Even much cheaper compared to coal, for example. In Medan Industrial Estate (KIM) 1 to 3, dozens of palm kernel shell trucks have to queue for loading and unloading at factories that use palm shells as an energy source for their boilers.

For information, in the middle of last year ESDM minister Jero Wacik inaugurated two private-owned power plants in the Medan Industrial area. The power plant uses biomass as fuel, not using fuel (diesel) like other power plants. Special is the main fuel of the PLTU is the palm shell. The PLTU turned out to produce excess power from the needs of factories and industrial estates, so that it could be purchased by PLN to be re-channeled to the public.

So it is actually rather irony, Sumatra, which in fact is the largest CPO producer in Indonesia, must experience a crisis of electricity supply. Isn’t the availability of palm shells so abundant and can be obtained at economical prices? It is an alternative energy source that is very potential to be utilized without having to erode the reserves of our fossil fuel energy resources which are actually already thinning out. Another favorable factor is the oil palm shell included in the category of renewable ( renewable ) thus ensuring continuous availability of energy ( sustainable ).

The government must take serious steps in this matter. The government through the ESDM Ministry and the related BUMN must contribute to the establishment of more biomass-based power plants in Indonesia. It doesn’t matter if you have to hold a private party or a foreign investor for example. Provide convenience and also a stimulus for investors to establish biomass power plants in Indonesia. It does require a large amount of money to set up a biomass-based power plant, but the benefits that we will get now and in the future are truly extraordinary.

If Sumatra and Kalimantan currently have millions of hectares of oil palm plantations, each of which has 20 oil palm-shelled power plants, how many million kiloliters of BBM and foreign exchange will the country be saved? How many trillion rupiahs of government subsidies can be cut? Not to mention if Sulawesi and Papua do the same.

Adequate electrical energy needs for the entire community will increase productivity, which of course will impact on economic growth and people’s welfare evenly. One important thing is, that the natural resources that are available today will still be enjoyed by our children and grandchildren in the future. Even in the next 20-30 years, when many countries in the world are hit by the energy crisis, Indonesia actually experiences an energy surplus. All of that is not just an empty dream if we want to diversify energy from now on. One of them is reducing dependence on fuel by utilizing the huge potential of palm shells as an alternative energy source.
